Have questions about food allergies, our mission, or how to get involved? You’re in the right place. Below, we’ve compiled answers to some of the questions we hear most often. If you don’t see what you’re looking for, please contact us and we’ll be happy to help.
1. What is the Allison Rose Foundation?
The Allison Rose Foundation (ARF) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to reducing and preventing tragedies caused by food allergies. We focus on education, awareness, research, and advocacy to ensure individuals with food allergies—and those who support them—can live safely and confidently.
2. Who was Ally, and why is the foundation named after her?
Ally, short for Allison Rose Suhy, was an 18-year-old who lost her life to a severe anaphylactic reaction while away at college. She was vibrant, caring, and passionate about helping others. ARF was created in her memory to prevent similar tragedies from happening to other families. Read more about Ally here.
3. What types of training sessions does ARF provide?
Our physician-driven curriculum is delivered by certified firefighter/paramedics (and sometimes EMTs). We train schools, universities, businesses, and community groups on how to recognize and respond to anaphylaxis. Each session includes practical demonstrations on epinephrine administration and strategies for creating safe, allergen-aware environments.
4. What is the Allison Rose Act (House Bill 231)?
The Allison Rose Act encourages Ohio schools to provide food allergy training to staff and students, qualifying as professional development. It also requires the Ohio Department of Education to list organizations that offer free epinephrine auto-injectors. This legislation helps ensure quick response times and fosters awareness in educational settings.
5. How do I schedule a training for my school, university, or workplace?
Simply Contact Us directly. We’ll get in touch to discuss your organization’s specific needs, schedule, and next steps.
6. Can I volunteer or get involved even if I’m not a first responder?
Absolutely! We value volunteers from all walks of life. Whether you can help at an event, assist with administrative tasks, or advocate for the Allison Rose Act, there’s a place for you.
7. How can I donate to ARF, and where do the funds go?
You can donate online through our secure Donate page or by mailing a check. All contributions directly support our initiatives, including training sessions, advocacy efforts, and educational resources. We believe in transparency and are grateful for every donation that helps us expand our impact.
8. What are the recommended steps for someone experiencing anaphylaxis?
9. What is the ARF Medical ID Tutorial?
Our Medical ID Tutorial walks you through adding important medical information—like allergies and emergency contacts—to your smartphone. This helps first responders access critical details even if your phone is locked.
